FAQs

What are the ages that you register?
We register players from as young as five (5) years old and currently as old as sixteen (16) years old. They play in divisions starting with Tykes, Novices, Atoms, Peewees and Bantams.

How, When and Where do I register?
At the end of each season we hand out registration forms to each current player. We will only accept returning players registration up until May 31st. After that date (June 1st) we will accept registrations from all interested parties (first come first serve basis) until such time as a particular division is full. Remember there is no guarantee of acceptance of registration because of previous season participation.

Simply contact our registrar, Cal Scotchmer at 416-466-1366 to arrange to get and fill out registration form and pay the appropriate registration fee. Please remember that we only accept returning players until May 31st.

When, Where and What time are the games and practices?
The league begins operations the first weekend after Thanksgiving and generally goes to the first week of April.

All games are at the Victoria Village Arena, on Bermondsey Ave. west of Victoria Park Ave. just south of Eglinton Ave.

Games and practices take place primarily on Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. as well as Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There is a time on Friday evenings that we may use for practices for some age groups from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

All house league teams play at least once per week beginning in October until our finals in April. From Tyke through to and including Bantam, each player will have at least one game and one practice each week. Divisions with odd number of teams would have one team playing twice a week with the others having a game and a practice.

What is Equipment do I need to play?
Full equipment is required at ALL TIMES no exceptions and all equipment must be in good repair. There are places (Play it Again Sports) that specialize in good used equipment or any sporting goods section in major Stores. You will need ice Skates, Shin pads, Hockey Pants, Athletic Support & Cup, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, CSA approved Helmet and Full Face Mask, Hockey Gloves, certified and approved neck guard and an approved hockey stick. Please note that mouth guards are optional but a good protection against possible concussions. If you don't have the right equipment you will not be allowed to play due to insurance concerns. Remember, please make sure helmet and face mask as well as other equipment fits properly and are of the correct size, using an older or younger siblings equipment, especially the helmet and face mask, shin guards etc. can and will cause injury.

Is there an admission fee to games?
There is NO admission fee to regular season games and practices. There is however a nominal admission fee for the playoffs and finals in an effort to raise funds.

What about the rules...and insurance?
A set of the current HOUSE LEAGUE rules can be found by clicking here. The players and coaches are insured by the CHA (Canadian Hockey Association) through our affiliation with the GTHL (Greater Toronto Hockey League). A registration form (for insurance purposes) from the GTHL must be filled out and signed by the player, parent or legal guardian

Is there a Select program offered and how can I play on a Select Team?
Yes, there is a Select program offered at Victoria Village Hockey League. If there are sufficient number of players in various age groupings and sufficient interest from Parents and Coaches, we will enter a Select team in a particular division. Select Teams represent Victoria Village Hockey League in The North York Hockey League (NYHL) playing primarily in the GTA and also can enter into tournaments when, permission is granted, by both the NYHL and our own League. All Select players must be active participants in the Victoria Village House League program. If interested, first indicate on our registration form and ask for and speak to our Select Convener or watch this site.

How much experience does a player have to have to play at Victoria Village?
Only the ability to skate and the desire to play. For the tyke division we match players of similar abilities using our “ABC” line system. And as we do in Tykes, every player gets equal playing time utilizing the three (3) minute buzzer system except in the Peewee and Bantam divisions where the players change on the fly, however we still insist that all players get equal playing time.

We are going away...what if we miss a couple of weeks?
We know some people may miss a game or two over the season and that's okay. We simply ask that the Parent call or speak to the Coach and make him/her aware. This will avoid last minute surprises and allow the coach to sort out the line combinations. For extended periods of absenteeism please advise one of the Executive as well.
